RealSpine Deformity

Purpose-built simulator for realistic, repeatable scoliosis-correction training.

Present

Overview

RealSpine Deformity is a surgical simulator for complex spinal deformity correction, such as scoliosis. It is the kind of case where the margin for error is narrow and the chance to practise beforehand is rare: outside the operating room, there is almost nowhere to repeat this procedure.

Repeated practice under realistic conditions helps shorten the learning curve and build surgical confidence in procedures that are hard to train for.
Realists, official product description
The kind of case the simulator reproduces.

What the simulator does

  • Biomechanical realism. The spine reproduces real biomechanical behaviour under manipulation, not just anatomical shape.
  • Adjustable mobility. Segment resistance is set by interchangeable springs, so stiffness can vary from one case to the next.
  • Configurable deformity. The deformity configuration is built for the case being trained, rather than fixed in a single presentation.
  • Patient-Specific setup. A manufacturer service that matches the simulator to a real patient's anatomy and pathology, so the team can plan and rehearse that procedure before the operating room.

What you can train on it

  1. Incision
  2. Pin insertion
  3. Drilling
  4. Deformity correction
  5. Fusion (rods, pedicle screws and cages)

How the simulator is assembled

Each layer is replaced independently, which is what defines the cost of use per training session.

The interchangeable springs are what set the biomechanical resistance during rotation, translation and correction.
