Unik Block was designed for the complex block: the one where the guidance route changes halfway. It brings sensory and motor stimulation, the echogenic finish for ultrasound and the X-Grid™ matrix for fluoroscopy together in a single kit.
The 18G versions exist for a practical reason: dense substances such as hyaluronic acid clog a conventional cannula of the same gauge, or demand pressure the system should not receive.
In the study published in Acta Ortopédica Brasileira, researchers at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of HC-FMUSP compared genicular nerve block performed with and without the localising mask, on a model, with 23 orthopaedic surgeons. The number of radioscopies needed fell from 12.1 ± 2.5 without the mask to 5.0 ± 1.8 with it, a statistically significant difference at all three points studied.
